Insert A Space-Related “Lost Luggage” Joke Here

Ars Technica has the article, “FAA greenlights Spaceport America in New Mexico

Spaceport America has been given the go-ahead by the Federal Aviation Administration. The commercial space flight center, planned for southeastern New Mexico, is intended to be the site of the first suborbital tourist service, run by Virgin Galactic. Construction has been awaiting the results of the FAA’s environmental impact assessment; with that out of the way, a license for both vertical and horizontal takeoffs has been granted.

I’d like to use this opportunity to quote one of my favorite exchanges from the movie Airplane II: The Sequel (a movie that was, sadly, not as good as the original).

This is from a scene where Elaine is doing a diagnostic with the HAL-like computer, ROC.

ROC: Analysis confirmed. All systems compute positive.
Elaine Dickinson: Well, not from where I’m sitting, they don’t!
ROC: Look, Elaine. Cut the “not from where I’m sitting” s**t. It must be a human error.

Good times.  Good times.
